Electric Turmeric Lemonade Smoothie

Why I chose this smoothie to share for our April inspired recipe.

This smoothie offers an anti-inflammatory and detoxifying boost thanks to its turmeric and fresh lemon juice. Think Spring!

Curcumin

The yellow-orange pigment in turmeric, is considered an anti-inflammatory powerhouse. And despite its acidic bite, fresh lemon juice

Mango & Grapes

While turmeric adds a subtle kick to the smoothie, it’s mellowed by a gentle nuzzle of sweetness from mango (I use frozen mango chunks) and green grapes.

Fresh Lemon Juice

Acts as a powerful alkalizer inside the body, cleaning house and nudging the liver to dump accumulated toxins.

The Recipe

This recipe comes from a well-worn favorite plant-based cookbook of mine by Ashley Melillo called Blissful Basel. Set aside a little extra morning time, gather your ingredients and add them all to a high speed blender, and blend until smooth.

Ingredients

Source the best quality ingredients and choose organic when possible. Makes 1 or 2 smoothies in 15 minutes or less.

For the smoothie:

  • 1 1/2 cups peeled diced ripe fresh mango (about 1 large). If you want to have mangos on hand, buy a bag of frozen organic mango chucks

  • 1/2 cup seedless green grapes

  • 1/2 - 1 cup of ice (if using frozen mango, 1/2 cup ice is sufficient)

  • 1/2 cup coconut water or filtered water

  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric

  • 1 - 2 Medjool dates, pitted and soaked for about 30 minutes for added sweetness - this step is optional depending on the sweetness level you desire.

  • A dash of hemp seeds - optional

  • A scoop of your favorite vanilla or plain protein powder to make this a complete meal.

Enjoy!

Let me know how you like it.
